I had NO other VSTs going at all and it locked up. I was scrolling through the SD2 patches, one at a time and only loading one instrument at a time. I'm sorry but, I just messed around with Play today. I have gotten good results from EWQLSO many times but it has NEVER been easy or terribly pleasant. These things may have been addressed in the Play version of EWQLSO. Or the release sample is too loud in comparison to the actual note. Also, sometimes the release tails get in the way of a line and also the release times ring out too long. What they have done well is that they've done a remarkable job on editing the short arts. This can be done in Kontakt and not in Play so it's one of the main reasons why I haven' tswitched over yet. So sometimes I need to get in there and reajust the layers. In general I've found that the extreme loud layer kicks in way to low (kind of in the mf range) of dxf patches. (I've heard that they've redone a lot in the Play version of EWQLSO, I'm still using the Konakt version) but many times I find that the dynamic levels in my version aren't set correctly so I have to adjust them to reflect the actual dynamic ranges of the instruments. Many times the dxf patches aren't set up correctly. I didn't want to get too into it because I generally fear backlash, because sometimes my frustration of using EWQLSO overshadows my absolute joy in using EWQLSO.īut, dxf patches are the only hope in making the strings work. Yes, I was going to add what Riff and Madbulk have said. If you are use to getting a good result with Halion Strings (I've heard these and they don't sound too bad actually) then using that library with the few patches that actually work in EWQLSO strings may do you well, if getting another string library isn't in the cards for you. Strings being an area where I can't quite figure out what went wrong. But EWQLSO unfortunately excels beyond all expectation in some areas and fall short in others. There may be every evidence that the new studio libraries from EW HS, HB, HWW and the such may be just that kind of 1 library does it all type endeavor. Also, Symphobia 2 might be a good addition.
In all seriousness though, many of us EWQLSO lovers have had to use other libraries like Sonic Implants, LASS and now HS and Cinematic Strings to supplement strings. If at all possible though, if you can swing it, Hollywood Strings imo would work where EWQLSO Strings do not. Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that from time to time especially in a pinch, I've two fisted chords on the 70 marc strings patch. Though on occasion, especially when I've need a larger than life huge sound, I've found the lyrical "a" and lyrical "b" patches to me the most useful. Personally I try to avoid them if at all possible.
